Apple is bold. Being bold is about taking risks. Apple did that so many times in the past. Remember USB ports in original iMac? If you look carefully at Apple’s decisions in the last decade, for them, the future is wireless technologies. I don’t see Apple going to USB C for the iPhone, they will skip it and go wireless when the timing will be right. Not this year. Probably not next year either. But it will come.
I trust Apple’s marketing guys; they will find a (controversial) way of spinning the story to make them look forward-thinking. I suspect it will be about saving e-waste. They’ll probably put some stats to justify what we already know: we have too many unused devices in our life, starting with chargers. So, what can we do about it? I do expect Apple to lower the price of their iPhone 12 otherwise they risk to be perceived (again) as being greedy.
Finally, on the pricing of Apple’s chargers or they competitiveness, I do think this miss the whole point. Sure there is always something better or cheaper on the other side of the fence. But, in Apple’s vision of the world, it’s not always about price. We should know it by now, right?
